作者把分散在纸草文献与铭刻材料里的希腊语占星“命盘/本命盘”（horoscopes）系统汇编、编号、释读，并把一部分“文学传统中的命盘实例”（来自占星著作传抄体系）也纳入同一框架。书中同时提供大量技术性配套：符号表、定年方法说明、术语表、对照索引（concordances）、以及图版（命盘图式）和照片，方便研究者复核原始材料与文本来源。
